Playing my way through these exceedingly listenable discs. On disc three now - just this side of heaven

It's been quiet here today... have to assume that means everyone's been too busy listening to great music and simply can't find the time to post

A brief "walk" through my shelves just now yielded this lovely Sammartini import. The sound is a bit reverberant, but not unacceptably so to my ear. The performances by The Orchestra de Camera Milano Classica are fresh and filled with feeling. Very much enjoying this Dynamic label release that I completely forgot I owned.

I'm busy cleaning my just arrived DG 7 LP box of Schubert String Quartets, and ripping my just arrived DG 8 CD box set of Martha Argerich solo piano. And I blame this thread for all of that work.

Blame correctly assigned

Congrats on your acquisitions and ever-expanding musical library!

Listening to Nikolai Medtner - The Complete Piano Sonatas

Marc-Andre Hamelin is one the finer interpreters of this extraordinary piano music (along with Hamish Milne and Nikolai Demidenko kind of in that order). Rachmaninov said that Nikolai Medtner was the greatest composer of the time and placed him above Igor Stravinsky for sheer brilliance. Not sure but love this music. If you like Rachmaninov piano music but with added genius of being able to beautifully, endlessly reinvent a motif the way Beethoven could then you could maybe have a listen to Nikolai Medtner... some 15 years since I first heard his music and I'm still enjoying it like it's new.

I'm not listening to classical tonight --- Preparing for a Death Cab for Cutie concert on Sunday... My wife bought the tickets and I'm not really familiar with them. They aren't bad. Not great singers or musicians, but not bad.

It's autumn over here and just had a swim after work.

This just came through the internet... sounds good so far.
