Congrats on the 452! Don't be freaked out about tubes, I've had 0 problems with my C2300 after 2 or so years and I've got backup tubes in the event there is a failure.

Im a SS guy, I don't own a tube pre like I feel I should..........But, yeah I wouldn't worry about tubes, its all solid and reliable stuff, a set of pre-amp tubes will last years....
Then if you want you could go down the exotic tube road.....

If I was going tube I would go the C2500 personally, need the DAC, and if its anything like the DAC in the C48, which it probably is, then its a sound sensation........
