"I am adding 2 steel supports for the rear of the shelf."......Dan is right. You better make them I-Beams. Or, I'm SURE we can help you spend some more of your hard-earned money on a brand new, heavy duty "Mc-Rack!"

Congrats but! I think you'd be better off placing the new piece on your back seat instead of the trunk.

My 6600 was my first Mc "piece". About 3 or so years now and I probably love it more today than the day I got it. Enjoy!

Dan, you would be surprised how strong Middle Atlantic shelves are. My entire system is installed in a large M/A rack system. Their products are made here in the united states and are incredibly strong. That being said I would use a 4u rack shelf for the amp

mac man.......You are correct, Middle Atlantic makes some nice engineering style racks. I have used a number of them in professional venue installations and they are built solid. Most recently I help a friend install his Middle Atlantic rack on the pull out/swivel mechanism in custom built casework along a wall in his home theater. We used several 2U and 4U shelves to install some gear that wasn't rack mountable. I am familiar with their products. I have two engineering racks in my recording studio full of pro-audio gear, mic amps, D/A converters, power amps, noise gate, compressor, digital EQ, Central Station, patchbays, Voice Harmonizer, Midi switcher, and much more. I also use a 4U drawer in one rack which is very handy for storing a few microphones.

Since aclearspot is planning on using a 4U rack shelf that is rated to handle 85 pounds, that should be adequate for the MA6600's 75 pound load, especially since the majority of the amplifier's weight is distributed in the front half where the transformers are situated. None the less, if that were my MA6600 on the 4U rack, I would have rear braces for the added support and reduction of vibration that would come from anchoring the rear of the shelf.

Default It Lives

Like a virgin I fired it up for the the very first time at 12:30 A.M. I added some sheet steel to make the shelf longer. I ordered a 100lb shelf that will be here in a week or so. Until then i"ll dig out some vinyl and a few SACD's[IMG][/IMG]

Default 14 Months later

I came home with this beast. The absolute last time I drive a pickup to an audio store. Was going to use the 6600 as a preamp , but I'm trying to sell it locally and I hate to say it looking at a c2500 since there's no c2300's around. The thought of tubes is freaking me out though.
