What I mean by quieter, is darker backgrounds in the music presentation and less surface noise.

I also just installed a par of EATs into the C2300...it fits nicely with the cooler. It is a big change compared to the standard tubes in a very positive manner.

Hi Everyone, I have recently rolled the mains tubes on my C2300 from stock to gold lions. Indeed this is looking like the cheapest upgrade ever. Quick question, is there a difference in gain/volume when using one or the other. For some reason I have the impression i have to go 3 notches higher on the volume to get similar output than before. I could be my mind playing tricks also. Is this possible??

tks

It is possible the 12AX7A tubes your using may have slightly lower gain, hense, the difference in volume. I have noticed this with other tubes as well. I found this to. E true for vintage Telefunkens, which many seem to like. I have been using vintage Mullards in each stage, which seem to have the right balance of gain, smoothness and dynamics.

I have no problems with the Smooth Long Plates Telefunken, not on the Line and not on the Phono, they sound great a step up from GL.
