Default What's your favorite SA7S1 filter ?

I find my self using different filters for various types of music.

1) for a very clean, smooth CD I like FL-1

2) for sometning bright or that has a lot'a brass I use FL-2 and the noise shaper

3) can't seem to find a use for FL-3, too !!! bright

I am actually using filter 1 most of the time. It sounds sublime with great recordings-to me.

Basic Interconnects. I have not gone down that road--yet. I have the original power cord, 12 Gauge speaker wire. I have heard the pros AND cons of spending $$$ on this stuff. As a matter of fact, I started a thread on Lansing Heritage (JBL) concerning this. Interesting comments so far.

Do you have suggestions?

Thanks.

We have similar views. I'm using Nordost mid-line products, Heimdal spk cable and Red Dawn (Lief series) interconnects. I've also had good luck with Straight-Wire products. I'm fond of the Shunyata Diamondback power cords. I can't believe they make a difference but they do !!!

If I recall, the Marantz balanced connectors are different than US standard-correct? If so, what would I be looking for?

I emailed Marantz for recommendations for XLR cables. They said they have had good results with Audio Quest.

Can anyone confirm this? I do not want to spend a bunch of money but would like to give this a shot. Any particular model?

Thanks

You need not worry about the XLR connectors or cables which are all made the same. USA and European balanced circuits are reversed at pins 2 & 3, the hot and cold pins, pin one is always ground. There will only be a problem when mixing Euro and USA equipment. That would cause phase reversal. All Marantz, your good !!! Marantz follows the USA configuration.

It appears that there are not a great number of people on this forum that have this particular player......

I have the model under the SA71, being the SA11S2, and this shares filters, transport and a few other trick parts with its much more expensive brother. To me its a very impressive unit.

Interconnects (Balanced XLR) - tried a range of Nordost, MIT and VDH.
MIT MA (Shotgun) for me hands down. Sorry to say the Nordost Frey was to tizzy in the treble for me.

Love the Nordost Heimdall Biwire for speaker cables though.

Filters - Its great to have a choice in the long term ownership, setting depends on your other components especially the preamp and CD disc quality. Each component you upgrade can mean the filter choice you prefer will likely change again.
Currently with McIntosh amps I like filter 2 - as older CD sound better with less absolute clarity, and modern ones just sound great whether on F1 or 2. With a revealing Krell amp I used 3 often in longer listening sessions.
