Balanced connections all the way. My main gripe is only 1 balanced source on the SC7S2. I would have liked to use balanced connectors for my Benchmark DAC-2 and the EAR 324P.

Before the SC7S1 I had the less expensive pre-amp, quite good, it had two balanced inputs and a phono stage.

I have one.

I run it balanced into my Moon 700i using Chord Indigo Tuned Aray XLR cables.

I have stuck with Filter 1 since day one.

Would only part with this player if someone gave me an Esoteric K-01...

Since about 1985 the worldwide XL standard is Pin 1 = Shield/chassis ground, Pin 2= + or high, Pin 3= minus or low. Prior to that time WE were backwards to Europe in terms of pins 2 and 3, but this was corrected loooooong ago.

Pin 2 and 3 on XLR/balanced designations are still (and seems always will be) an international mess.
Buyers of mix-n-match equipment beware.

Input (hollow pins/female) typically for USA Pin 2 = + or high
but in Japan and some others its the opposite, with Pin 2 = minus or low.

For OUTPUT (solid pins) P2 and 3 are revered, P1 earth return stays the same.

Eg. Esoteric and Marantz with their higher end SACD models offer a pin designation switching facility to avoid this incompatability, but native p2 is - minus for them.
Either that or your up for a potentially expensive cross-over cable.

Anthony
