Isaacc7: Did you figure this out? Hopefully the amp is ok?
On another note: wanted to congratulate everyone on 700 pages and 7000 posts! What an epic thread! |

Hi Isaacc7 ,
in my amplifier is a slow blow fuse installed. I had the problem from changing 274 to 5y3. the sylvania has said goodbye with a light show. then I had to change the fuse. of the 5ar4 I don't really know the problem. they are built for eternity and survive the power tubes by years. I think Dennis will help you with a serious problem with the amplifier if the replacement of the fuse is not enough. |

Hi khashmi I don't know the Visseaux, but the Fivre 6v6 g and gt I found both very good with a 5y3. I could not detect a shouty signature after they ar broken inn. that with the room tuning is a good decision, I think many underestimate this factor. |

Dennis assures me that the transformer is probably fine. I'll be back up and running in a day or two. |

Thanks cgn-dt-n for the compliment on the room, their sonic impact has surpassed my expectations. I also didn’t find the Fivre’s shouty after 50 hours (initially yes)—they really blossomed after break-in and I really enjoyed them with the Mazda 5y3 rectifier. I still like the Visseaux a touch better but in order to make an apples to apples comparison, I will need to re-insert the Visseaux GT with the 5Y3 (I only listened to it with either the 5U4 or the Sophia Electric 274b). Matter of fact, I’ve not tried either the Pope or Visseaux GT tubes with a 5Y3 rectifier, since they also work with a 5U4/274B.
Update: I was very curious about the Ferranti 807 tubes. First set was faulty so eBay seller sent me a new pair, so I just inserted them 2 hours ago. First impressions are really really good. A lot more power is evident from the get go but are they more musical than the 6V6 is hard to determine until I spend more time with them. I also changed the rectifier back to my Sophia 274b. Finally got some fuses and I’m up and running again. Not being able to listen to anything was really weird. Decided to start with the tried and true Raytheon 6f8g and Cossor 807 combo to get back into the swing of things.

Did any of you guys familiar with the new Inspire speakers ever get the specs on these? I'm curious of the impedance and efficiency. I have a pair of Dennis' speakers dating back to the 90's... Soliloquy 8.2's in rosewood finish. They are very rare with external crossover boxes and a transmission line design. I emailed Dennis asking about the specs of these, but to no avail. I bought them second hand and have always enjoyed them, but still unsure of the specs. I'd love to compare these to the new Inspire line of speakers.
If any of you guys who are in direct contact with Dennis would please ask him about the old Soliloquy 8.2 models, I'd love to know the specs. These are some very nice speakers, and it's a shame Dennis didn't make more of them before moving on. Last edited by Breakdown7; 08-20-2022 at 10:22 PM. |
