That's a true shame -- and hope your cousin can find a glass (if that's all the damage) which won't be easy.

Good luck with the claim -- if visually inspected, it may not go as he hopes.

Best to him,

Bob

Make sure the damage and refund claim is processed through eBay and keep ALL CORRESPONDENCE DOCUMENTATION online through eBay. Make no phone calls or emailing directly to the seller. eBay, PayPal, and your CC will protect the buyer as long as there is proof.

Storing audio boxes is why my wife agreed to have overhead racks installed in the garage! Those big boxes seem to breed and occupy every available space!

I'd wait for my refund, then pack the amp back the same way he found it and tell the owner to do a UPS pick up at his expense, then ship the whole mess back to him where he can get it repaired. There's no way I would want that integrated amp, even repaired. Why should your cuz get roped into all of that because some idiot shipped a McIntosh amp without the proper factory double boxes?

Totally agree!

I might suggest that after receiving the full refund, your cousin should offer only to take the unit to a local UPS store for repacking and shipping.

The seller would have to arrange payment directly for the packaging and shipping from the UPS store. The shipping store can create custom fit protection using expandable foam and double boxes that can be reused in the future.

I have a pair of MC2205's, these two are originals and about 40 years old, I know that I need to send these to Terry or Audio Classics for a complete restoration but I am just not brave enough to ship these, just the thought of shattered front end scares the hell out of me, does anyone know of a good McIntosh tech within driving distance of Houston?

Sorry that happened to your equipment. I had to send my MVP-871 out for repair and the front glass cracked. It was in the factory boxes. I think that anything can happen during shipping. This happened in June 2017 and I am still waiting for McIntosh to send the part to the dealer. When I contacted McIntosh I was told that they have no idea when the part will be ready. You will be put on a waiting list. Good luck and be patient. I always tell people that it's not like you have to put a new spoke on your kids wheelchair. Now that would be a real problem.

Call Audio Classics and they will send you a double box for most any McIntosh piece for safer shipping. Sure there is the cost in their doing this but you have a much better chance of safety. Then I would trust only their recommendation for single carrier shipping. For my vintage gear I purchased and now store double boxes specifically made for each. I plan to send to them a few items in the next month for a check up and this is the only way I feel safe in doing so. BTW, after experiencing other choices for servicing vintage McIntosh gear, I will forever now go to Audio Classics only.
