Default In the year 1812...

Has anyone ever come across this Velodyne 1812 sub? It seems to be a force to be reckoned with.

Velodyne

Sound & Vision Magazine - Extreme Bass
Quote:
This sub delivered a minimum of 112 dB SPL from 32 Hz on up and put out a truly impressive 101 dB at a teeth-rattling 16 Hz. The clean, even bass extended to the lowest pipe-organ note. The sound was strong, deep, and enveloping without sacrificing precise imaging. On The Matrix Reloaded, it registered 116 dB SPL, and it even produced 10 Hz when the cannon fired in Telarc’s famous CD of the 1812 Overture. Sure it’s big and hyper expensive, but it delivers ultra-high-performance bass coupled with unprecedented setup flexibility.

I've been on a constant bottomend search for quite some time.
I've listened to Velodynes DD-18's,owned DD-15's and last year JL F-113's.
Then I went to one of my audio stores(velodyne dealer).
He has a huge room,by the way he too has been on the sub hunt.
The disc he demoed with 2X1812's was Jeff Beck(live at Ronnie Scott's).
I was totally blown away with fantastic the bottom end sounded and how it freed up the music above.
I was actually quite emotional with the whole thing.
That room was 16X40X12,it was almost like being at the concert(superb sound).
In my 12X19 X7 room,I knew I couldn't get that type of sound.
We'll,I asked,do think I could get close to that type of sound in my room,
his reply, you can in any sized room(even smaller than mine.
A month went by and I asked if we could do a home audition of the 1812,
No prob.(I live an hour and a half away) from the city.
I wasn't even commited to buy.He brought her out with 2 other people,
set her up and we played same dvd, even with some scoping out the lowend of the room(we forgot the remote) so it was all done by ear and some crawling to see where the sub would like to be.
Just with the preset she sounded excellent, the force of the very bottom end and the midbass punch was just fantastic.
I've been looking for this type of sound for a long time where the sub can get the punch and attack sound of a drum with all the tone in it's glory.
I have had the 1812 for a week now and I'm still in AWE.
She literally stomped my 2XF-113's into the woodwork.
I had DD-15'sX2 I liked,2XF-113's for music alot better,then I heard the 1812,END OF STORY,the sub hunt is over.
I sold my F-113'sX4 and musically I am so happy I did.
The dealer gave me a LIFETIME warranty on the Velodyne 1812,even though they don't make them anymore.
Definately a major win musically for me ,plus the warranty, Most sub warranties,1,2,3 yr.Thiel I believe 10yr.
Anyway I's some happy.
Downside:HEAVY AND Expensive

I bet that could be quite explosive(LOL)I sure haven't heard anything yet that can go as low and really give the mid and highs space to do their thing.
It's funny when you hear the sub or feel it it's like a wake up call,THAT"S IT when she all
connects.Just like musicians when they get in the pocket, truly a great feeling.
Been thru a few expensive subs, but nothing close like this sound wise.

It's a shame that they don't make it anymore, but this sub's look command respect. It would be a good competitor to the Gotham.

piolaxo,is that your room and 1812.
I got mine in black.
my dealer bought a bunch of them,I sort of reserved another(hopefully before Jan.
Would be interesting to hear the two.
i'm very surprised at how the 1812 cleaned up everything and as I say the
midbass is superb, and she gets totally out of the way of the music..

No, it's not my room!!!!!! I was curious when the thread started and got to see the
what this sub is. Maybe I shouldn't have posted it. It's a massive one. If you get the
second one it's going to be ballistic, as in the 1812 Overture.

I wonder what that nice price is to Canada T9S1H8
figured out why I couldn't get a decent sound in my 12X19 room with the F-113's.
Silly me,I didn't take into consideration the additional 4 rooms that are down here.
I thought I was loading 228sqft,instead the two JL's were trying to load 1340sqft with stairwell also.Alot of room to load and air to move.
The 1812 does it effortlessly with great punch and air movement on the very lowend.
I imagine the bigger Gothams can do the same perhaps, anyway guys don't forget about adjoining rooms as I did and seal those doors.
