Mike.......It's here now, and called the MCD500. Not only do you get the amazing ESS dual quad DAC with both coaxial and optical input, but you also get a fantastic CD/SACD player to boot. Even if you choose to ignore the CD/SACD transport, the DAC's are truly incredible.

There is one available from Audio Aficionado member JWC at a reasonable price, perfect condition, and includes free shipping in the continental US. The MCD500 will thrill you. Take a look here. http://audioaficionado.org/selling/5...html#post98478

I like mine so much, I bought a second one. The MCD500 is a serious performer in all respects.

Mid-priced and McIntosh don't go in the same sentence.

Dan,

I have thought about the MCD500 many times but was wondering if I should spring for the new ARC DAC8 or Esoteric DAC7 since MAC isn't going to make one in that price range. I wanted to make sure I had all the options to get high res music off a PC or NAS storage device over to my C2300. And of course bleeding edge technology to take me ten years down the road. I don't want much do I....

The MCD500 will not disappoint if you are looking for a mid-priced DAC.

Thanks for hinting about The new mda 1100. I was just about to purchase a weiss usb dac, but will surely wait until i see what the new Mac contains.

Anyone heard any hints about usb or anything else? I feel The Need, brothers!

Haven't heard anything about USB in the new DAC, but McIntosh would be crazy not to include it. They have good engineers and I'm sure they see the writing on the wall that streaming music is gaining a lager and larger following. Not saying CDs will vanish, but with higher resolution downloads becoming more common sales of CDs have to be falling.

Will it have HDMI 1.2 inputs to accept DSD over HDMI? That would make me get one vs. upgrading my 301 ---> 500.
