I'd suggest you consider getting the Granite Audio Phono Burn-In CD which is available for $35. It has tracks with MM and MC level signals which you can select to run on repeat from a CD player into your phono stage for easy break-in.

Thank you Audio bill for this suggestion. I have a new phonostage to be unpacked, installed and burned in myself. Will order the CD straight away.

24 hours on the granite audio CD cooker. Sounds much better - it’s more than listenable now. Still not enough bass response, but the skeleton of great sound is starting to emerge. Wide, deep ( really deep) soundstage and really precise and airy. Still too brittle at top and bottom end, but much better.

Whew - just sounded so awful at first listen. They should have a sticker on the outside of the box - “break in period required!!”

~48 hours on the cooker - now we’re getting there. Moved the entire sound stage to the center - wider and deeper all at the same time - just great. Still a little brittle, but I’m hopeful by this time tomorrow night, we will have moved through awkward adolescence and into adulthood very quickly. Could be great - just about ready to start tuning in the settings (with which I have fiddled very little to this point).

Default C37 is coming home

Oh yea - where did the speakers go? Are they still in the room?

~72 hours on the cooker and she’s done! Everything I anticipated and everything I could have hoped for. I just love accuphase - timeless looks, works every time, and just fantastic sound.

It may continue to break in, but I’m going to take it off the granite audio cd and do it the old fashioned way now. It sounds great, so I no longer feel like I’m burning up the cartridge needlessly. Thanks for the tip on the cd - took a painless weekend, rather than burning through a several thousand dollar cartridge.

The C-37 is the perfect match if you have a C-38xx pre-amp TMO.

I‘ve never heard such a great sound with my old records before, even if my current pick-up is not state-of the-art (Linn Klyde). But it‘s an argument for an upgrade...

Yep. It’s awesome. Just stunning really.

And, a great argument for an upgrade for you. I’m thinking about a second arm and cartridge just for grins.
