I paid exactly $30 for a Mazda MX5 oil change this morning at my local dealer and laughed out loud on the way home as I recalled bringing in the various Ferrari's for an oil change and handed over $900 each and every time for "annual fluids" as they call it... I'm so way over that nonsense.
Ferrari has a 7 year maintenance free warranty; everything is now covered.

The Macan is basically a reskinned Audi Q5. Originally shipped with I believe Porsche specific engines (3.0V6 and 3.6V6) then later got the VW EA888 engine from the Tiguan/Golf GTI

But man does it look pretty!

Then a few months ago.. they showed this...

But in all honesty, the most practical car isn't the SUV but a good wagon. Even a shooting brake is more practical than an SUV

Mercedes CLA35 AMG.. I know I am getting old when I find station wagons sexy

My only personal experience with the Macan was a rental in Germany. Sadly it was the diesel engine and it's nowhere near the experience of a 911 in terms of performance. Doing over 200kph was a struggle for this car and I couldn't drive it as sporty as I hoped I would.

The backseats are quite uncomfortable for longer trips and I got complaints from the people sitting in the back.

That said I have 2 colleagues that own it and they both rave about it. One of them "downgraded" from a Cayenne S to a Macan GTS and says it's night and day in term of sportiness.

Regarding parts and maintenance, it's not a limited production car and they share a lot of parts with the rest of the VW group. Once the warranty is over, you can maintain it for pretty cheap I would believe

Yes, for their new cars. I’m waiting for a Ferrari suv myself. No, not really

I recall asking a few Ferrari FF owners how they like their foul weather capable Ferrari and they both said they’ve never driven in the rain.. let alone snow. Can’t blame them but it was funny. One owner said he does take his kids out for ice cream in his (back seats). Brave soul

Get a Chevy. 330K trouble-free miles with zero repair costs (well.......... did spend $70 on a non-necessary 'repair part') since 2007 with mine before getting another BMW in January. Not as good with my wife's 10yr-old M-B C350. Had to spend $200 on a new thermostat. Horrible. $200 in 10yr. Fingers crossed with the BMW (and her continued love for the C350).

The Macan is not really a SUV, its more of a car / modern day small station wagon as you can not go off road, its not very good in the snow either (one of the reasons I sold mine) but the back seat is ok for a child or if you do put a adult in the back seat the front passengers have to really move there seats forward. The trunk ie hatchback area is not very big either. The Macan is over priced for what it is.
That’s a fair assessment of the Macan. It is however Porsche’s number 1 selling vehicle by far. Their SUV’s and the Panamera all outsell the 911 by a wide margin. It’s what China and US wants. Yes, China is a huge market for Porsche now, even bigger than USA

Thanks again, guys, and especially to Ivan. I was unaware of the Macan's ridiculous hood design. Was aware of the Q5 platform derivation and the small back seat. It doesn't snow much here in Piedmont NC, and my interest is not in its off-road capabilities (or lack thereof) - mostly its somewhat sporty ride and appealing looks. But I haven't heard any of you talk about even a medium term experience with a Macan.... which may be telling. The new 2019 Macan is supposedly the only refresh (and a minor one) planned before they take this thing electric in several years.

That’s what they are saying. Macan and half the Porsche lineup will be electric only. 2022-23? That’s a whole different topic all in itself. I really do not see how or why an electric Porsche should continue to enjoy its iconic status when instead of the sound of the flat six, there will be the sound of.... very non- enthusiastic “nothing”... much like the many other e-cars that will be offered. Will Paying a premium for a Porsche badge make sense in another decade? I’m not sure.

Then again Porsche lost its appeal to me after the 997 generation as they started to turbo charge everything and the once glorious wail of the flat six has been replaced with crackles and wheezes of what sounds like a Beluga whale with bronchitis.

+1

I love the sound of my flat six 997.2 Carrera S—-

The next generations don’t sound anything like it.

I originally wanted a 997.2 turbo, which although it’s very fast, sounds more like a vacuum than a sports cars.

Teslas and other e-cars sound like a librarian passing gas.

Half the fun and experience is the sound, and that is going away with turbos and e- cars.
