If you don't mind me asking, what other processor is still in the running?

The SP3 is right up there for me as well and I, like you, won't be making my purchase until late this year or early next year.

The SP3 will display the serial number, firmware version, and IP address. If you just want a quick answer, the current firmware (as of 5/19/15) is SP3 Firmware version 2015.04b, released 20-April-2015. If you have the SP3 connected to the internet, you can open a web browser, type in the IP address shown, and bring up the SP3's web interface. From that window, you can click the "File" tab (for files related to the SP3). At the bottom of that page are three gray squares. The middle is labeled "Show Release Notes (new window). That will open a new tab with the current firmware release notes. At the top of that page will be the current firmware version (so you can check for future updates). Tip - I'd recommend creating a bookmark/favorite for the web address of the SP3 in your browser. The SP3 web interface can be accessed even if the SP3 is in power standby mode (though that option CAN be disabled if you choose in the SP3 settings, but it's on by default).
Grit, thank you very much! That is incredibly helpful.

I'm also seriously considering the Datasat processor(s).
My dealer is quite enthusiastic about them.

The new Classe - see Kal's review in Stereophile - is another interesting offer. It offers a lot for 5K.

The Datasat LS10 is certainly interesting. Not a fan of the 20 just because of the breakout cables.

The question is: strict HT or dual-purpose use? The Bryston does have a stellar SQ profile once dial'd in, but lacks active room correction, which the Datasat has with Dirac Live (schwing!). It is also pricier, albiet cheaper than the MX151.

For something modular and uber-priced, I start to recommend Theta gear. Something about the CB processor always has me amazed.

Emile, I'm not sure if the LS10 also has Dirac Live.
Yes, the 20 has weird outputs, but seems like the machine to beat. It is double the price of the LS10 though.
The LS10 resides in SP3 territory.

Get the SP3 if all you need is 7.1 and below. Plus the SP3 has 2 balanced digital inputs that will come in handy when you get a digital player with digital balanced outs in that it will have a signal 6db louder than coaxial or toslink digital. In addition the SP3 has 7.1 analog pass through and a company known for great service and longevity.

You are correct, the LS10 does not have Dirac which is why it's a lot cheaper than say the RS20i or Trinnov Altitude32 which has the Trinnov EQ.

So, any rumors on an SP4, or whatever they might call the successor to the SP3? Wide and height channels? Room correction, if perhaps Bryston can acknowledge there is legitimate use for it...?

CEDIA'S not that far off...

Hi

Nothing at all in the works for Atmos or SP4.

If we do go forward on an Atmos system and SP4 the SP3 would stay in the line for those folks that do not want to go the Atmos route.

The SP3 focuses on music reproduction with cinema being a incidental benefit. With ATMOS, music coming from the ceiling would definitely be unnatural.
