Gold Starlight 6?
Hey Guys,
Has anyone here upgraded from a Starlight 6 to a Gold Starlight (digital coax)? I'm curious to know how much of a slap in the face the difference is between the two. (I'm a current Starlight 6 owner, and I'm pretty impressed by how good it is. Its even better than the more expensive Supernova 6 Glass cable IMO. |

Used with a BADA DAC2 and a MSB Platinum Sig IV, Gold Starlight is a big step up. More detail, but less hash. The Gold Starlight is one of the better digital cables around. But you have to be realistic about synergy with the system. If I use it with more modest DACs, in a modest system, I don't hear much difference, and it would not be worth the premium over the base Starlight, which is excellent value for money.
Not sure it is fair to compare with the Supernova 6, which is best optical cable I have ever used. The TOSLINK interface can be an issue, ie the transmitter and receiver at either side of the cable, and often the S/PDIF interface is better. I tend to use TOSLINK when the equipment benefits from galvanic isolation. Outside your question, so apologies, but I would look at upgrading either the speaker or (maybe) the IC cable within the WW line before upgrading the already good digital cables you have now. |

Hello Glisse,
Thanks a lot for your logic response, it makes a lot of sense. I did just that, invested on Equinox 7 speaker wires. I was about to buy the Gold Starlight 7, and Ivan gave me the same advice you are giving me now. Thanks a lot buddy for taking the time for such detailed advice/response. A pleasure, and I suspect the new speaker cables will be great: I doubt anyone knows WW better than Ivan.
