Does anyone have any experience or recommendations for outdoor security cameras with good night vision? How about with Hikvision or Reolink, I see them recommended on the internet a lot? I’m looking for IP cameras to work with my Synology NAS Surveillance Station system, preferably PoE. I’m not interested in cloud-based subscription systems like Arlo, Logitech, Nest, etc.

It’s easier to get the HIKVision NVR. No annual licensing needed. And comes with POE ports to power all the matching cameras. You can set it up to back up to NAS IIRC. And the app allows remote monitoring

Synology requires an annual fee from memory.

I have a Ubiquity setup, but they wont play well with your Synology NAS. Having said this, the CloudKey Gen2 not only acts as the management point, but also allows you to put a high capacity drive inside to record the videos, etc. Dont be confused by the "cloud key"; its an entirely on prem solution. You dont need to use it in the cloud, but you can set up a remote gateway to video realtime footage from your cell phone, etc.

I started off with a Snyology NAS solution (still have the NAS), but the Ubiquity setup is vastly superior in virtually every way. The only downside is it locks you into Ubiquity. You can get a cloudkey (which again has all the video recording services in it) and a 1080p camera with audio, zoom and night vision for ~$600. This same setup will support up to 20 cameras and they have several variants of 4K (with mechanical lens zoom), and 1080p cameras for all type of environments. Even submersible!

Agreed! The Ubiquiti G3 Dome is a good outdoor unit

Check Lorex Technology, I have gotten a few emails from them. Seems good night vision, POE, 4K ETC

Ubiquity builds great stuff. Once I changed over to their gear , no drop outs, slow downs etc. Adding cameras is a snap. I have a 16 port POE rounter and with 4 cams, thirty days of video
