I think you hit the nail on the head. They are looking for a much younger demographic to sell their products to. To me the problem is younger people didn't grow up wanting an audio system like us baby boomers. We could not wait to have some money to buy this stuff.

I think it will be hard to convince these younger people to buy expensive gear made by Mcintosh. They are happy with their I-pads and you tube. I wish them the best of luck, but I just don't see it happening.

Not to mention a fair percentage of millennials still live with mom and pop. Where is the income for high-end audio gear going to come from?

Cocktail parties and art exhibitions in SoHo....

We sure have come a long way since the old b&w catalogs and the Clinics of getting the word out.

Cocktail parties and art exhibitions are great. But that doesn't mean these people will be interested in high end audio.

Nice one Ivan. I'd never single out Julian like that. He's one, albeit the oldest one, among us all.

Very true. It's like when there is a publicly advertized art opening reception in contrast to advertizing only to artists and patrons of the arts.

People come in off the street for the food and wine who have no interest or knowledge about what they are supposed to be looking at or purchasing.

No matter what, high end will certainly look different in the future than it does today, though a younger audience is behind much of the vinyl resurgence and the headphone boom.

The entire industry is looking for the best way to broaden its appeal beyond the core boomer group. The aging out is a threat to industry survival. Without finding ways to involve a younger/broader audience, high end will atrophy.

Forty years from now: hey Ziggy, check out this pair of Loehengrins I nabbed from the speaker room at Goodwill.
