Hide the Cables

One of my pet peeves with my audio systems, is to hide the cables so they are not seen at all from the Front viewing area.

I go to incredible lengths to do this. It's OK if you're on the (back) gear side to see them, but even then they need to be dressed and look clean & organized.

How do you feel about seeing cables where you shouldn't?

I hide as much as possible, but with two big tube amps that I like to give lots of breathing room to it's not always feasible.

The casual visitor to my room probably will think I hide my cables. There's maybe a few inches of power cables you can see coming from the 2301's.

Now cable dressing is a completely different thing for me. I have three tall sever racks in my equipment room that serves my home. All the cables are dressed nicely. In order to dress the room, I felt there was excess cable needed to accomplish this. I avoid that in the 2 channel setup. I have tried to get the shortest cabling that will get the job done. It's definitely not pretty, but is manageable and goes unseen.

As long as they aren't too distracting. Hiding them isn't practical in my situation. Getting the shortest ones and using the fewest possible can help in some situations. And this includes power cords. It would be inconvenient, but if I could reconfigure my system so that I could use shorter cables/cords, it would be great. But a rack to meet my needs would not be cheap. Those I've liked were either too short, too long, or too expensive.

Ivan.......I prefer not to see any cabling from the front of the system, and in my main system I have accomplished this very well. In the studio, where the home theater and two channel systems each reside on there respective glass shelved racks, it is a bit more difficult to be totally stealth, but I have still managed to maintain the look of a clean installation.

Your installation in the Cape is the best I have ever seen. The catwalk room is a marvel unto itself, and you have every reason in the world to be proud of it. Excellent planning, and perfect execution of the plan.

When we built our house the deal was, the garage and bonus room were mine, the rest is yours (Colleen). This was a good compromise for me. The ugly truth is my cables are unsightly. I've always chosen the shortest cable lenghts possible. There is no easy way to hide my cables, although they are properly isolated from each other. :sorry-3:

My cables especially the power cords are too thick and inflexible to hide. In addition my preference is to have no racks between speakers so the there is not much I can do about the cords for the amps and speakers. Besides I like the look of the Transparent Speaker Cables.
