Honestly, because Matt promised I would love them more. And because Jules Coleman told me I should do it. And I just wanted to try it, made easier by the incremental trade in and because the markets have been so kind to me this year. . And they will drive the big Latours when I cross that bridge. It's interesting that all the primary tubes in the amp and preamp are now western electric, along with the step up being WE.

If you ever decide in the same way, let me know before you let go of your gm70's. I have a second system that will need an amp when installed!

Yes the gm70s are tall tubes that run hot. I had my shelf made taller than normal.

Yes, I am really lucky with my room. It's great. I wish I could convince alberto to stop by and listen some day as he is proximate. He could rate it on his delicious scale plus advise on any tweaks.

Regarding the second system, I'll make this suggestion for a second system and to everyone who is looking for a lower cost entry to Shindo. The Montrachet is amazing. Big, bold, and chunky el34 sound. Loved it. Loved it. Loved it.

I "technically" had one, ever so briefly. So briefly I never connected it. (Background: I bought a used one from Matt, but before it was delivered the used GM70's became available and decided it was a better fit so I swapped orders)

I was thinking a Cortese to drive a second pair of petites.

Congratulations my friend! Can't wait to see what you think of them.

I will report and/or you can listen. I realized that I take an extreme amount of pleasure and relaxation listening to my albums. And there aren't that many areas of my life where I get so recharged - and hence even smaller improvements were worth it to me amortized over the years. This has been true for over a year now. I don't take similar enjoyment for example from my daily driver car. Only from enhancing relationships with my family and friends and intellectual pursuits and experiences. And this is my contemplative time which I thought it was worth exploring further. Otherwise I couldn't justify it.

Default Swapping GM 70 for WE 300B

Hi Freestone.

I never heard a GM 70 but WE 300B I know very well. Use them myself in a pair of homegrown SET 300B amps a la WE 91, with WE 310A as driver. Very nice amps, but 300B is definitely not the best powertriode. European PX4 is also very recommendable. Of course, it also depends on topography of amps, biasing etc.
Best powertriode I heard so far is WE 252A. Unfortunately these are extremely rare and extremely expensive, if you can find them.
What I would really like to hear is a Shindo 300B amp with 300B´s replaced by WE 252A. I think that the sound simply would be to die for.

Freestone, I'm with Alberto. Congratulations. I'm looking forward to hearing your review. I'd dearly love to have the We300b's as well, and I'm jealous!
