Default A superb 'Land Cruise'

For those that might have an interest in the ultimate rail journey in North America here's a glimpse into the best train on our continent.......... I've ridden it three times over the past twenty some years.

We hope to do the Canadian at some point. Looks great. We did 30th St Station to LA via ABQ and back thru El Paso a few years ago (15-day cruise to HI in between) and it was great. Had a 2-person couchette, which was a bit cramped if the upper bed wasn't being used. Food was very good and included in the price. Great way to travel. Denver to the west coast thru Glenwood Springs is still pretty spectacular. Wish the clowns in our congress would give us a decent passenger rail system. So much better than the cattle-car flying of today.

Got to put that on my bucket list. Longest train ride I took was Beijing-Moscow-Prague-Budapest-London.

Dave,
Thanks for the video. I enjoyed watching it. That looks like a great train ride and very enjoyable trip.

Yeah, the Chinese term. Had stops in Ulan Bator, Irkutsk, Novosibirsk and other towns of course. Been 26 years, but still remember it fondly. If you're thinking of Paul Theroux's books, if memory serves he had one called Riding the Iron Rooster about within China and The Great Railway Bazaar about the trans-Siberian.

Yes, I was thinking about the Theroux book. Until I lived in China, I thought that trip would be cool.

Could never have convinced my wife to do it after her woman's trip to the Silk Road where she stayed in a "Four Star" hotel that had an open channel in the floor for sink water to drain from room to room. That was in Kashgar on the very western border.

My apologies to Dave for the slight diversion!
