Default Speaker sensitivity/specs/amplifier relationship

I was going over a project for another system I have in mind and relatively low powered amplifier and speaker sensitivity. I was checking out the specs and remembered the following discussion I saw posted on another forum.

John Devore discusses: How specifications can be accurate and still be a lie. Some facts about sensitivity.

It is something to keep in mind

I'm skeptical but I'd read a transcript, if available.

McIntosh amplifiers with autoformers provide full power at all ohm levels.

It’s been a while since I’ve studied electronics but the math and formulas he speaks of checks out.

They do. Tube amps are voltage sources, not current hence they like higher impedance. Solid state is the opposite, hence the doubling of power into half the impedance loads. Up to a limit of course. Power supplies and output stages need to be very robust to keep doubling from 8 to 4 to 2 and into 1 ohm. 1 ohm stability is where the legends reside. Amplifiers of the Gods..

I watched this as it came up on my recommended views... I can see his point. I also find it hilarious when people make blanket statements about a speaker because of its low sensitivity.. for example my XR50's at 81db are probably the lowest I've seen and yet duets this very design feature the bass is better than any other "book shelf" I heard.. sometimes there is a reason they design a speaker to have a very low sensitivity.
