They ask the same thing in Europe and Asia about McIntosh products, etc.

I won't/can't try and justify all of the reasons why audio products cost so much more when they are sold offshore. You should consider that a importer or distributer must make sure that all approvals CE/IEC are complete, pay tariffs or duty, set-up warehousing, inventory carrying costs, a repair network trained and available since they will be responsible for the warranty in most instances. In addition to these costs you have added in another level of profit that must be built into the end price.

True

Especially of motor vehicles, where price could double and sometimes triple of what can be had over in US/Europe.

Good to see you here Dave! Welcome..

Yeah, I realize that, but aren't most Accuphase pieces special order, and are shipped here in low quantities?

Yes, I'm very thankful for everything I have this holiday season....but if Santa could find a way to slide some A-200s in the rather large stocking that I put out, I'd be most appreciative.

Most of the price difference is probably tax. In Turkey, for example, the price of a car minus the minimum 70% government tax, is about the same price as they are here for the same model. Look at the price without the tax (Vergisiz Fiyat) of these mini coopers:
