Personally owning all of the Esoteric models, I will say that the D02X/P02X is my 2nd favorite. That is only behind the P1/D1/G1 combo at $125k+

You’re very welcome. I can only hope my experiences can help provide a tiny bit of insight that helps everyone that doesn’t have the ability to demo all this wonderful equipment. I’ve been very fortunate to be able to ‘play’ around with all this equipment.

I was thinking it might be safer sticking with the same brand based on the synergy and tweaking done in my setup.

Hoping the discrete dacs from the D1x may trickle down to the next level at least, which seems to make sense that all the R&D wouldnt be just for 1 model alone, as further involvement in software development over time as updates will likely be required.

The prospect of a D02xs with discrete dacs will definately renew my interest and loyalty in the Esoteric brand as i do very much like the sonics.
It will definitely be interesting to see what Esoteric has decided on exactly. I’ve not read any solid details yet other than they are making the Dac. That could mean a lot of things but I’m sure it will be spectacular.

Not to besmirch your memory but in the K1 thread from last year, 02/20/17 you said “The K1 actually sounds better than the D02X”. So maybe it’s a tie for second place?

Adam... that was true back then. Long before I got the P02X and they both had a chance to break in completely.

Fair enough, but when you wrote that the K1 was only 5 days old so probably not broken in either. On the other hand the D02X/P02X costs more than the K1, advantage D02X/P02X! But the K1 is Grandioso level, advantage ...

Reading this thread impression I get is that Esoteric has priced their DAC/player solutions in order of ascending performance - no free lunches.

Very true, but I don't think it's unique to esoteric.

You pretty much get what you pay for in this hobby. Not many true "giant killers".

The challenge is to give the best gear you can afford the best room and power you can arrange.

True, but Esoteric has so many gradations, e.g., five single box models counting the Grandioso within a generation, before we even consider integrating their multi-box solutions.

The price jumps are quite substantial, especially when separates with clocks are considered, so keeping customers 'in the fold' as these technologies evolve and upgradability options are on offer will also be a challenge.
