Default Hello from Canada's capital!

Hi Folks,

My name is Rick and I live in Kanata, Ontario, Canada...which is basiclly a part of Ottawa.

I got into this hobby in 1974 by getting hooked on turntables. I love anything mechanical, and turntables really "turned" my crank!!!

For most of my life I spent far too much money on this hobby, always chasing something that I just couldn't seem to reach...and then....

A few years back I sat down and really asked myself what gear I had developed a true emotional connection with. It was a bit of a list, but a few pieces really stood out. So I went about acquiring those pieces, although I have yet to get a couple.

I was fortunate enough to acquire a Luxman M-05 from a former Lux Vice President, I also got my Luxman CL-360 tube pre from him. Now my target pre was the Lux CL-40, the CL-360 is the direct descendant, so all good.

The M-05 was completely restored, the only components being re-used were the big main filter caps and the transformers, everything else was replaced and seriously upgraded. The output transistors were replaced by more powerful transistors. The CL-360 was fully rebuilt and upgraded as well, including having all connectors removed and replaced by soldered joints. All of the caps were upgraded, and I have since re-tubed the pre with cryo'd tubes.

These 2 components sound better then anything I have ever owned, and the M-05, while retaining it's original character, now has serious slam, obviously due to the more powerful transistors.

My target turntable was a Luxman PD-350, but I have had a hard time finding one and purchased a PD-300 a while back and completely rebuilt it myself.

That's enough of my story at the first meeting, but I will tell you that I am enjoying this system more than any previous setup...even those that cost many, many, MANY times more!!!

Very happy to be here,

Rick.
