When I recently got some in-ear headphones, they recommended going to an audiologist to get custom fit for them (for $100) because the noise cancellation and bass response is much better. I do this for free:

By the way, Sugru is great and it is also fun! I have hacked a TON of things, improving them with sugru and now I got my own recipe for doing it for pennies instead of the $12 they charge.
