2 turntable belts at a time vpi TNT mk 5
Put a second belt on the table which I saw in a Brit hifi mag. Seems better but I wonder if you get a lot more motor noise? Anyone else tried this? I have never been happy with the potential for slippage as the belt gets older. Is this my imagination? Is problem the result of my high torque motor as apposed to a Nottingham?

Mike from VPI emailed me back saying that 2 belts at a time encreases dynamics. i asked if there was any downside which was not responded to. i also asked if 10-50 synthetic was ok instead of thicker oil table came with and was told that is a fine way to go. they suggested using an sds speed controller as turntable will run faster

Using 2 belts at a time ill mean one is spinning the platter slightly faster than the other. At least this is the case on my Classic 1 since the pulley is slightly conical to allow slight speed corrections. Is this not the case on the TNT?
My next turntable upgrade is the Music Hall Cruise Control 2.0 which is a cheaper alternative to the VPI SDS and based on what I have read does the exact same thing. |

Mike from VPI responded that there would be better dynamics with 2 belts if you had a flat pully with various grooves in it. I assume 2 belts gives better grip -less slippage. This extra grip might pick up the speed a bit; which led to Mike saying to double check the speed with an sds or similar. If you use a sutherland timeline to set speed make sure the sutherland weighs the same as your record clamp if possible(clamp has to weight more then you add a little wight to timeline to equalize) any weight added needs to be placed as close to spindle as possible.

Does the TNT have a flat pulley with various grooves in it?

the tnt has a flat pully so you can put one belt next to the other. If you can only use 1 belt try the baby powder tweek. BTW if you use an sds and it will not settle down it means you have the wrong sized pully on your motor. contact your manufacturer or dealer. This happened to me as i hot rodded my tnt from using 2 different sized belts with a motor/3 pully spider set up to only using the motor with one belt.
