These were recommended to me in another thread. Double checking. Would two mono block 275s drive them well with their efficiency of 89?

I've heard the Django's before. They have a big sound, but I thought they sounded a bit muddy in the bass. Inevitably wood cabinets will have some small amount of resonance & coloration. I'm trying not to be unfairly biased toward them, but ultimately they're not Coltrane's. They don't quite achieve the Coltrane's accuracy & purity, and lack the mid bass and bottom end speed of the better Accuton drivers. Marten use cheaper crossovers and internal wiring in the lower end models, so obviously they are not going to offer as much insight and image specificity. For the same money, i'd lean toward a pair of Avalon Transcendents or ML Summit X which are both terrific speakers.

If they were muddy, it was either the room, placement or the bass shelving switch on the back was in the wrong position.

I don't think it was any of those; my audition was in my Dealer's showroom which is a treated room. And he has a good ear for speaker placement & set up. The Django's from memory were connected to Dartzeel amps. The Dartzeel NHB-108 isn't the last word in bass, so it would be interesting to hear how they respond to something like a Boulder 1060

It seems this reviewer also found the bass could vary based upon the amplifier used.
Of course the room will always be a large contributing factor in bass reproduction. Even dealers with nice rooms may not adequately address bass resonance issues in their room - of course I'm not sure what your dealer had setup so I'm only speaking from local dealers I've been to (most of which only address mid/high frequency response of the room). Still this is a good read with more perspective on the Django XL speakers. Marten Django XL loudspeaker | Stereophile.com |
