In my opinion, the only reason to get the DSD upgrade is for the convenience factor and for when SACDs are no longer being simultaneously offered with DSD downloads. Just the fact that Acoustic Sounds has so many new SACDs coming out over the next few months leads me to believe that SACDs will not be going away any time in the near future.

I don't think there's any need to be nervous about the new Esoteric top of the line player. I think most of the important technology is already employed in the D-02. It's more about bringing this technology to the dual mono platform of the D-01. I think the D-02 is future proofed for a long time, not to mention the fact that its sound is incredibly awesome!

Best,
Ken
Ken, Those are GREAT points, you nailed it! The new Esoterics will use HDMI to take advantage of the much better interface then USB, however as you say, the sound of this current K Series and D-02 sound fantastic as is with SACD!

Thanks Tom. So the connection between a computer and the D-01 Grandioso would be an HDMI cable rather than a USB cable?

Ken

hi,
but as i read about was that usb3.0 is twice as fast as HDMI.
HDMI is not a common standard for computers and normally used not for audio.
as for my new 15" apple MBP there is a HDMI. But as i know the work path is through the video-card?

2nd thought was, why use TEAC, the mother-company, DSP as a standard option to their DAC`s even with usb at lower pricing.

i admit that the D-02 is a very fine DAC and i just love it, but as there is so much internal processing in dsd-format it should be easy to upgrade with a new usb-driver or just use the i_link which should be the same as firewire on a PC.

maybe the whole DSD-thing is just a new hype, as some describe it in the internet.
