Too much gain in that arena from what has been achieved. My instinct tells me the business will be broken up and spun off to smaller companies that will continue to support and develop.
There is a small outfit here in Washington that takes these players and modifies them on a crazy level and maybe now they will see opportunity from the collateral fallout and stand to gain. On we march! |

I agree with you as I think the only thing we are seeing the last of is OPPO Digital the retail manufacturer and seller. I suspect that the OEM divisions will live on under other names as they are already set up and have contracts to fulfill with assemblers that will assume the warranty risk of the products including the OEM parts.

“From now on, OPPO Digital will focus our main effort on organizing and ensuring long term support for the existing generation of products. As such, we will not have the resources to develop and release new generations of products.”
Well that’s a shame.... Oppo made terrific players. I wouldn’t count on that “long term support”. |

I have the original BDP-83, connected to the TV directly and used for quickie viewing when I don't feel to fire up the system. With this news, I'll hang on to it for as long as it works for nostalgia's sake. I do need to resist the urge to get their latest player, which I truly don't need, simply because Oppo disc players are going away. A nostalgia-driven idea also. I have a Pioneer 88 and an 09 (which is unused and boxed up), so another box would add to the clutter more than be useful at this point.
If anybody can fill the void Oppo leaves with regard to premium players, I'd think it would be Pioneer. I've found their blu-ray players to give excellent performance (though the 09 is a slow-loader).

Farewell Oppo - Oppo closing.
Oppo is closing up the shop. This note was released April 2nd, so it is not an April Fool's joke.

OPPO Farewell
It does seem real; just visited their website.
What a shame - well-designed, well-executed products. Own the HA-1 pre-amp and the 205 blu-ray player. Maybe grab the PM-3 headphones while I still can.
