I am also so glad that I managed to get one at Magnolia. It was on "repeat" last night.
I like this unit a lot, even the buttons when compared to the 105 capacitive ones. So one thing I tried was to use the 105 as streamer feeding the 205 and it is working okay. I think this will be the way to go: sell the 105 and buy a 103D.

Pete, Magnolia. I called all the places that carried Oppo and they had them in stock. |

That is where I got mine. Was told they were selling like crazy and probably won’t last.

I just ordered a UDP-203 directly from Oppo. I don't have a 4K display. But I figured eventually if my last generation Pioneer Kuro dies, then I will get an OLED 4K.

I expect that Oppo would want to capitalize on the interest in the 205 and will likely make more over the next several months. I used my Oppo 95 as a way of upgrading my DAC in my home theater by using analog out to the multi-channel input of my Mcintosh HT processor. The 205 has some interesting features such as being able to stream Tidal with MQA processing, HDMI input etc. I will be keeping my eyes open for one and move my 95 to the 2 channel room as a transport into the D1100 even though I don't spin too many disks these days its nice to be able to when the mood strikes.

Three UDP 205's ordered
I spoke with the Magnolia store in Cary NC and they found three so I ordered them. I will keep one and will have the other two available. He is checking to see if can locate more. He said one guy bought 24 units.

I am glad I got mine when I did. The reason I stepped up in the first place is so that I can integrate it with my two channel system without duplicating any components. I run the surround sound straight out off the Oppo without needing a second decoder. Pretty nice feature when things start getting cluttered. The Oppo even has volume control. I run it into the pass-through on my McIntosh 6700 for main left and right, and then I have a cheapo Rotel that runs the other center and right left surround channels. (If the room was bigger I could run all seven channels, but there isn't enough space.) It works awesome!
When I was shopping for it, NOBODY else made a player like this. It even has balanced outputs for two channel audio. It is a great piece of hardware. -Geoff |
