A few months ago my dealer checked what was available in the North American market, and only a few in white and rosenut. I wanted all three in black, not in stock. Some dealers have the 800D3 in black, but none in my area have the HTM1.

The FST mid cone size probably won't change with the new models because there's already a degree of compromise, necessary for it to operate over a wide bandwidth with low order filters. Making the cone smaller improves high frequency dispersion and performance at the expense of power handling at the bottom of the passband, and vise versa. The smaller FST on the 803D3 was probably a consequence of the smaller "Aerofoil" woofers being able to operate linearly to a slightly higher crossover frequency.

I'm sure B&W knows a lot more about their business than I, but it is amazing how much of a lag they are putting into their sales pipeline with the length of this transition

It was a consequence of the 803 using a smaller cabinet and unfortunately the size of the FST is unlikely to change on the 804 as a result. It’s a simple fact that the 804 would out perform the 803 if it did but we can try to remain hopeful just the same.

Over the last several years I have had the opportunity to audition the 803D3, 802D3 and 800D3.

All are fantastic and exceptional speakers.

To my ears the 803D3 sounded the best, more air and defined space in the stage.

For the right room a perfect speaker.

I wish the 803D3 sounded best, it surely has the best price and footprint.

Default When’s the D4 coming?

I like the footprint of the 804, it fits my room. Looking forward to what is to come from B&W.

While we wait at the next iteration (800 Dx) but with the price increase I’m now looking Magico’s.
