Default Worst speaker-placement I have ever seen...

Is this a joke? Worst speaker placement I've seen in my life! Why I would I spend $20K on Sonus faber speakers and then place them in the worst possible spots? Mains on the floor? Center channel way up high? This video comes directly from the official McIntosh YouTube page, and it is wrong on so many levels...

Weep, my friends...

Bet those things sound awesome in that boomy cabinet on the floor......but that's not the worst I've ever seen.....long time ago a friend and I went over to one of our customers homes to help him with a receiver he couldn't get to work properly....we asked him what kind of speakers he had with it and he didn't know, said it was some Italian brand. When we went over there, he had a pair of walnut Sonus Faber Electa Amators which retailed around $5500 a pair if I remember correctly. He had them hooked up to a 50 watt Technics receiver and had them leaning against a wall up on the mantle of his fireplace. It was the worst thing I've ever seen. We still talk about it to this day but didn't have the heart to ask him WTF? at the time.

Esteban.......Fortunately for all of us HomeTime with Dean Johnson is not associated with McIntosh or Sonus faber.

That entire ugly home theater cabinet arrangement was obviously built for the program. It is apparent the show's producer and Dean Johnson don't have a clue about audio. I agree with you the entire speaker placement is ridiculous. Their intended space efficiency approach creates more issues than it solves. I also noticed closed back cabinets where the processor and amplifier were installed. No consideration was given to cooling.

Basically this is a trendy feel good fluff show, strictly entertainment, and not a well thought out Do It Yourself production.

Hometime is different from This Old House, and Dean Johnson has always been with Hometime. Hometime is more about construction of a house. The homeowner probably wanted the speakers there for a "clean" look. Hopefully the homeowner will try the speakers on the stands and more the middle speaker under the tv, and move the sub closer.

I can't believe Hometime is still on. From what I remember years ago watching this show this type of install is NOT what they do ordinarily…

Buck, your description of an equipment mismatch reminded me of an extreme mismatch of equipment I witnessed years ago at Jonas Miller Sound in L..A. Some guy had brought his 1970's vintage, Yamaha receiver in to drive an electrostatic speaker he wanted to demo. This mismatch resulted in some of the worst sound I have ever heard! The guy seemed to be scratching his head wondering why his .003% distortion transistorized receiver was not producing good sound.

Dean Johnson has certainly aged since I last watched Hometime...!

More than a few of Dean's sidekicks were some real cuties and I'd find myself tuning in just to watch them. What home improvement???
