Mike....great vid review!

Can you tell us what amp you're using to run these? Are you going straight into the C50 or are you using your Lehmann Black Cube?

Good review. Love video format. I agree with your observations. Last year I went to ALO Audio in Portland Oregon and auditioned the flagship cans from every major manufacturer, auditioning them each through multiple head amps including my own (MF X-Can v3). I went there thinking I would buy the HD 800s as I already own the HD 650s (beautiful midrange, pronounced bass, dark/veiled highs even with my Zu Mobius cord).

Had never listened to Beyerdynamics in the past. One listen and I was hooked. T1s bested Grado, Denon, Sennheiser, etc. As I posted on Head-Fi last summer, I agree the HD800s have an amazing out-of-the-head soundstage...best I've heard especially height and forward projection of the soundstage. But to my ears they were too etchy...I heard a lot of sibilance across multiple music and amps. I wouldn't call them thin but would call them relatively bright. Transparency on steroids. But best sound stage and non-headphone experience I've experienced. And they are a lot more comfortable and light than they appear. The T1s had no flaws to my ears and had a seductively transparent and fast cohesive delivery from low to high. Great imaging and extension without being boomy or etchy. Just like what I value in my Magnepan 3.7s driven by CJ amp -- articulate, cohesive, not too forward, no glare or sibilance. Great width to soundstage (but more inside your head than the HD800s). A year later and having just listened to the T1s last night (driven by Beyerdynamic A1 amp...perfect match, with tube driven cd player), this is a perfect headphone (other than I also wish the cables were detachable, although Ken who owns ALO Audio says it is an incredible stock cable, and he he can replace it with ALO).

Darrin,

Thank you for your feedback. The T1 is a must have IMO if you like headphones listening. It's real Hi-Fi personal listening experience.

Thanks for a great review. I have the T1 and am planning to buy the HD800.

The T1 is excellent but really needs a good source and amp to not sound boring. In a proper system, I like it a lot.

Very well done great review

It would be nice to see the 800a with better cables, I think once the cables are upgraded it seems to make huge diff over the stock cables.

$ vs $ stock I agree with you too.
thanks so much for this...

PS what amp are you using, maybe I missed that in the review?
