I owned the MX-Rs for about 4 years. They do not like hard to drive speakers at all. They were great with a pair of 8 ohm ProAc floor standers. But my Revel Salon Ultima 2s just sucked the life out of these amps. They sounded very thin and got very hot. I even sent them back to Ayre to make sure they were OK. So if your speakers are hard to drive: stay away. I replaced them with the ballsy and cool running ARC DS450.

The MXR's are a great match with my Sasha's!

I have my MX-Rs paired with Watt Puppy 7s with no issue whatsoever. More power/reserve than I could even need or want.

Hi AYRE fans.

I'm very close to pull the trigger for a 2n hand pair of AYRE MX-R to drive my SASHA speakers.
AYRE being very rare here in France my exposure to this brand has been quite limited and I will have no chance to try these amps in my system before I pay for them...

My system consists of a dCS Puccini CD player (I would say quite the same sound familly as AYRE, if not even more detailled but always very natural and 'well integrated' details). The preamplifier is a SHINDO Monbrison, so very different from an AYRE one. I had the chance to try an AYRE K5-xeMP and found it definitiely enjoyable in my system. That's why I think AYRE's house sound could suit me pretty well.

I also had a nice demo of AYRE equipments in the past: AYRE CD/DAC source + KX-R + Momentum on Avalon speakers and this was absolutely GREAT!!! However the amps were not from AYRE that day...

The seller made a demo with a full AYRE system (CD + KX-R + MX-R and cables too) on his KHARMA speakers. This was okay to even nice but not thrilling as well, at least with a cold start of the electronics. Maybe it needs many more hours of warming-up / standby before giving a valid comment.

Please help me sharing your educated thoughts on the MX-R. Thanks a lot guys

I have Ayre MXR's driving Sashas. I found them to do better with active shielding cables, but I'm very pleased overall.

Thanks Kippyy, any feeling for a lack of drive/reduced speed of the two bass drivers included into the Puppy enclosure?
The power supplies of each MX-R seem so small compared to other amps.
