Anyone have thoughts about these R upgrades not going to a new chassis format?
I do. The space limitations have got to have limited the scope of the potential upgrades.
I thought the KX-R Twenty would have had an outboard power supply and the amp would have gotten bigger or gone to an outboard power supply also. The current design is real nice but.............

Hmm...all depends how it sounds I guess...I personally am not worried about it...my MX-R's sound GREAT....I can only guess...but I suspect the short signal paths and the power supply right next the audio circuitry has a few plusses ....

So true
The proof will be in how much better its sounds but still wondering how much the limited real estate hinders what Ayre is able to do...

It's my understanding the "diamond circuit" does not take up more space but rather is a completely different circuit.

I suspect it was rather easy for Ayre to make the changes within the chassis footprint, and doing so also allows them to offer upgrades.

I have no doubt space is not an issue. Charlie does nothing half way especially when charging someone as much as the upgrade is going to be. He is very conscious about giving people value for their money no matter the price point. Also, the 20s will have a double diamond output stage according to the ces show.

Well if you listen to the video, they say the MX chassis couldn't dissipate the heat the Diamond circuit would give off so they had to develop a Double Diamond circuit to work in the current configuration.
So the question becomes is the Double Diamond deal a compromise to get everything in the current chassis or is it actually better?
Knowing Ayre its the latter but it would be nice to hear from Charlie directly on this.

Really intrigued by the "20" electronics. Came across this page about their room at CES:

The blogger's comments make me really look forward to hearing this combo.

It would be nice to know from Charlie himself and I am sure we will. In the meantime I suspect it is something similar to how the power is handled in the mxr now. Instead of having one large power transformer they used 2 so they could originally fit in the chassis. That was an original design idea not because they had to but because they wanted to. They might have done a double diamond output even if the heat was not an issue. One for the negative, one for the positive but who knows. I just can't wait to get mine upgraded. Charlie promised I would be blown away by the upgrade on my dx5 and he downplayed the dramatic difference. After realizing the degree of the improvement over what he promised, I will take his word when he told me the kxr and mxr is even a more profound upgrade than the dx 5. He says it will be more than twice as good. That possibility boggles the mind. If the dx5 upgrade was 1250 and these will be 9-12k then it is hard to contain my excitement. It is not about the money but about the trust Charlie has established with me by not embellishing price or sound improvements.
