What were you once very good at, and struggle to do now if at all.

I broke my ankle water skiing a month ago. Now I have to wait till next year to try again... (My wife broke her ankle the next week walking and needed surgery. She always finds a way to outdo me.)

I broke my left thumb downhill skiing last year.

Not as yong as I try to be.

Then be able to see it in the film when the trout rises.

When I was a kid around 10 years old I got a job in a local diner. And I learned to cook. My job description had nothing to do with cooking but the place was the kind of diner that had a daily special and pies and cakes and that sort of thing. And my work day would start early so I would be in the diner when the cooks were preparing the days' specials, cakes, etc.

I've always had a curious nature. So, inevitably I'd be watching the cooks and asking questions. And watching. And eventually, as adults tend to do when a child has an interest in what they're doing, the cooks would have me start helping them, i.e., hey kid lay this dough out, hey kid wrap this dough around the pie plate and place your fingers along the edge to make a shape, chop these onions, stir this soup, etc.

And for the life of me eventually I began cooking. I made pies -- lemon meringue, coconut crème, Dutch apple. And cakes, German chocolate. And entrees -- meatloaf, Hungarian goulash, roast beef, chicken, etc. The interesting thing is that it came so naturally. I never read a recipe. It was just from asking questions and watching. And it was all home made. It was almost Zen-like in that there was little conscious thought ; I would just do it.

And now, decades later, I have no idea what happened. I can still cook and I'm told that I'm a good cook. But I'd be the first to say that my menu is limited. And now, I need a recipe and I still feel a bit overwhelmed with the terms, etc.

I'm a goal setter and for several years I set a goal to learn 1 new recipe a week and then a month. Seems easy. But I never achieved it. I just looked up my goal setting doc and I've averaged less than 1 recipe every 2 months this year. And that might just be a record. But it also includes learning a new seasoning mix -- not exactly a meal.

So, that would be my contribution to this thread. And the thread was timely because I was just talking about the aforementioned to some friends. And wondering what the heck happened.

I used to be better/reasonably good at dealing with WAF objections to my "big ugly outdated trchnology audio system".....

I am definitely not good at this anymore, have lost total patience! LOL! 😎😎😎
