It's probably not a good comparison since my Classic was the old style, with the metal arm. I didn't realize you were looking at a Signature with a 3D arm. I'd be willing to bet it would be pretty hard to tell the difference between the two using the same cartridge. I'd ask Mat and Harry over at the VPI forums and see, they are usually pretty honest about differences. It may just come down to aesthetics.

Harry said something to the effect the Prime beats the Classic Signature (Classic 3), but w/a 3D arm on the Classic he'd give the nod to that table.

After careful deliberation and rereading all the posts here, I've decided to buy the Classic 1 old new stock and use the savings for additional LPs and an audioshield dust cover. Also got the Ortofon 2M black to go with this TT. Thanks again for all your help!

Nice! I'm using the 2M Black on my table as well, it'll be a great combo for you.

My 30th anniversary Classic has angled corners. Not rounded.
Mine came with a new Soundsmith carmen mk ii.
Amazing cartridge
