Default Submerge Subwoofer

Wilson has just released its new Submerge subwoofer at 30K. It weighs in at 319 pounds and goes down to 5 Hz. It's a dual spider design similar to the Subsonic or Thor. I believe the Thor has been discontinued. I think that 99.9% of folks buying an XVX will choose the Subsonic. There simply is no place anymore in the lineup for the Thor. I think the Submerge is a natural Thor replacement for either the Alexx V or Alexia V. Subsonics for either of these speakers are too expensive. I suspect that the amplification is Class D. The Magico Titan is priced at 32K and weighs in at 390 pounds. The McIntosh PS2K subwoofer weighs in at 458 pounds and is priced at 50K. The subwoofer market has exploded with new very expensive but very high quality subs. it would be interesting to hear these subs to see how they compare to each other.

Best

Charles

I would say that any row would be absolutely amazing. It really is an ageless system that will never be duplicated again. However, McIntosh had to move on because of their inability to continue to manufacture the cabinets. They think that the new PS2K/XRT2.1KW is competitive with Ivan's system. I think the JL Gotham is the best value for an ultimate subwoofer on the market. But it's a sealed box sub and probably the blend will not be as good as with a Submerge with Wilson speakers, so I would prefer dual Submerges with an Alexx V or Alexia V. I would also prefer the Titan with Magico loudspeakers for the same reason. Magico also makes a less expensive sub. Years ago the JL and Rel lines of subs didn't have much competition. I believe that McIntosh will soon be coming out with a little brother to the PS2K, i.e., a PS1K.

Best
