Default Stereo REL 25's?

Hey guys!

REL just came out with their flagship sub. It's a beast for sure. I only heard a single 25, brand new out of the box so it was pretty stiff and not broken in at all.

I was considering upgrading to 2 REL 25's as part of my system below. Anyone with experience with these particular subs? I have the G2's so can only imagine what the 25's are capable of!

I was also investigating about this sub.
But the local dealer didn't even know it existed...

My local dealer has a paid of the MkII's which are very powerful and commanding.
What type of room are you considering to place the 25's in.

I've been thinking about the MkII

It's going to be in basement, which is currently in the process of being finished. The room is 21 x 19 x 8.5 (l x w x h) feet.

The difference in the sound stage with just the g2 was pretty miraculous. It became more 3-d and wholesome.

The 25 rel literally are double (almost triple) in power and tenacity.

I did hear from a rel rep that these will be going up in price from 7500 to 10k over the course of the next 6-12 months.

Wow, thats a serious price jump. Right now, you can buy the MkII for $5k
The size of your room is pretty big. Was there any thought acoustically to the size of 21 x 19?

Just to pass on some info I've been gathering, I was told a sheet of Fire Resistant drywall is twice the weight of regular drywall (75lbs vs 38lbs) and does a much better job of acoustic insulation. Our currently unfinished basement is where Im listening.
Planning to finish it this Spring.

Yeah it is a pretty big price jump, however my dealer and I worked out a steal of a deal for a pair of the 25's. As of now, I plan on purchasing them soon for delviery in April when the basement is all done.

As to the size of the room, no real planning there, it's just the way my basement is laid out that the size of the room lays out that way. It's a huge, fantastic space, I'm really excited for it.

Thanks for the info on the drywall! Yes, I'm upgrading all the drywalls in my listening room. I had a treatment company come out and tell me that I won't need too much treatment in the room as it seems to be a good room, sonically. I'll probably put the 25's in the front corners of the room with the high level connection. My current G2's will probably take the back corners of the room and will likely only function as LFE only for movies.

I'm told by REL and my dealer to connect both the high level and LFE to the subs. What do you think?

high level for music listening and LFE for home theater, no doubt!

Let us know how they compare to the G2's once you have them run in properly! Bet they are awesome!
