Default Whole house wifi

currently using apple time capsule and extender. have dead spots. has anyone had experience with he newer whole house systems lie eero's or orbi? i understand that extenders cut down speed the more you add the more you lose. what router are you all liking? thx.

I've had Asus and Apple, but have had better luck with Luxel. I have 4 stories and have the router on the 3rd floor with a booster on the first floor. Works excellent!

Default Whole house wifi

+1 on Luxel

I have wired router and four Luxel WAPs including down by dock....requires hardwiring however so not easy if retrofitting

Did the ASUS and it worked great for me. Covered my dead spots, no extenders.

For what it's worth, Eero was not very favorably reviewed by CNET - not very good range, not very flexible. CNET agrees with Ivan - Asus has the best range of consumer routers. I use two Apple devices, a Time Machine base station and an extreme in bridged mode and they work very well for me, but I only have two floors and about 2600 square feet. If you have multiple floors and a bigger home, Asus is the way to go.

I tend to discount products that appear to me on Facebook, and Eero was one of those. Caught my interest until I did the research and found out it's probably over-hyped.

You are better off going with HPE Aruba, something like their Instant 215's or 315's would do the job very well.

However you need to survey your place first so you get your heat mapping correct and fit for purpose. This can be done with free utilities and a demo access point.

Its considered best practice when deployed in this manner.

Most homes just don't need a managed router solution like Luxul, but it is the gold standard right now. Each AP is hard wired to a central controller. Works really well.

If you don't need a Luxul, get a super router that has MIMO, beam steering, diversity and two independent 5 GHz channels.

I use a Netgear Nighthawk R7900. Covers the house and the yard really well.

Then put all you fast streamers on 5 GHz and leave 2.4 GHz for the rest.

Carefully manage which devices are on which 2.4 GHz channels. There are only three frequency independent channels on 2.4 GHz in a sequence like 1,6,11 or 2,7,12 etc.

So In our house Sonos is on channel 1, all the home automation stuff is on 6 and 11.

No conflicts.

I use a time capsule and a older Extreme as an extender. Easily covers over 5000 sq feet.
