Default Does any media match Tape?
Even at 7.5 ips the dynamics and presentation are amazing, and this is on a non Dolby Teac A4300!

I may just end my Vinyl quest and move on to R2R Tape as my source of choice.

No matter how good tape may be there is just not enough of a selection to make it anything but the smallest of a niche solution. Its like making a Ferrari your daily driver and using it to take the kids to school and go to the grocery store.

Actually there is a very good selection of older classical/jazz/rock tapes if you look around. It's the masters of more current material that will set you back a bit of coin.

I can remember back in the early 90's saying it sounds so much better on vinyl. You even her that on TV commercials now. Maybe if we say its sounds so much better on R2R tape there will be a come back. HaHa, not holding my breathe on that one. I have noticed since I reconditioned my Technics 1500 that I search more for tape than vinyl. If you purchase used 7.5" tapes you really need to be careful since sellers no longer have machines to confirm the tape is complete, or not broken half way in the middle. These new modern tapes, from the Tape Project, Groove Note, Opus, and others are something special. Can't wait until I get an outboard tape preamp that bypasses the internal electronics of my machine. Also you can have fun making your own tapes of favorite tracks, and still get some of that tape sound. Still not cheap at $65 for 10" ATR9 reels. Tape is fun, hope you enjoy the journey.

Seventeen companies are now releasing new and old titles on 15 ips tape. Yes rock is under represented (mainly due to licensing costs) but there's jazz and classical titles a plenty. I think at last count there's close to two hundred tape titles and counting available. Plenty of titles for me -- not to mention -- many audiophiles listen to multiple mediums nowadays. But when it comes to put up or shut up- tape is still the go to choice for many audiophiles.
