Default How much noise is acceptable when no music is playing?

How much noise is acceptable from your Mc amps when no music is playing?
If I leave my Mc setup on I get a quiet hiss, I'm not too sure how to get rid of it. My power is filtered, I swapped the stock power cable for a shunyata which made no change to this quiet hiss; if I turn the preamp off it's slightly better, but leaving the amp on alone still has a light hiss coming from the tweeter.

It's not bad, I'm just wanting to reduce the noise floor of my room.

How far away from your speakers do you still hear the hiss? Usually it's the tweeter that offends the most in most systems. With mine you can hear within a foot, maybe a foot and a half. Putting a WW Platinum Electra PC on my preamp made a significant difference over the stock PC.

I don’t hear any hiss from my MC402 amps with a C2300 tube preamp until it’s over 60 (obviously with no music playing). I hardly ever listen to my system above 50.

I don't have any hiss on my McIntosh setup either unless I put my ear up to the tweeter and turn the volume up. Nothing has ever been audible from anywhere close to the listening postition

3 feet. Anything past that and the air conditioner and radon fan is louder. My other project is to put sound proofing between me and the utility room.

Good to know this is just normal noise.

Yes, some hiss is normal. What I describe BTW is with the volume cranked 100%.

Mine is with the preamp off, so I wasn't cranking it to 100%.
At 100% with my amp and preamp on which is 94.5 or something, I heard noise still 30 ft away, and it's still audible down the hall.

I have my MC8207 connected to my MX136 via all XLR cables in my HT room. It is dead quite.
