Am guessing you had a Super Sport rather than a Super Hawk. Friend of my brother's just sold his all original single-cam 750 Super Sport in orange today. We were both lamenting that we are simply too old to ride one these days. And, he got considerably more than the original $1601 that you paid. My brother will be selling his '73 Honda CB350F in a few weeks. We will be motorcycle-less after that. Sad state of affairs.

Been a while since any of us has talked motorcycles.
Doing some 'spring cleaning' and ran across this picture. Senior year in HS in Jacksonville, FL (R.E. Lee HS -and I don't think Lee was all that great a general, strategically speaking - good on the ground tactically, but not great).
Anyway, that's a brand new Honda SL72 that was my main mode of transportation in 1966.

Dave - did you ride that new in '58? If so, you're really well preserved for someone your age.

Yes, it has been awhile. Love the old pic!

I'm dropping my 1993 Superlight off at the dealership for regular maintenance today.

I just revisited this and you're probably correct - I'm not sure if I was aware of the name at the time, I probably just thought of it as the 750 Honda 'cuz I have ever since.

My Bad: Hawk & Superhawk were, duh, the 250's & 305's.

I may have posted something about this before:

Somehow I still remember (actually, I guess the following is why) that the model# on the engine/trans case of Super Hawks was CB77 and the single-carb & pressed-metal frame/tank 305 Dreams was CP77. When I think about it now, I might have had the only CPB77 in the country as it was brought here by my merchant marine uncle.
It wasn't an export model, apparently.
It was a regular CB77 except that it had the 360 degree crank from the Dream (ala British twins). I remember reading in Cycle World ? at the time that the Superhawks had 180 degree cranks because that allowed them to breath better at high rpm and my friends regular import CB77 would easy pull away from me at freeway speeds.
On the other hand, a Bates megaphone for Triumphs on mine sounded great at any speed! On my friends bike, by comparison, you'd just say it was loud.
I guess that's why Triumphs, Beezers, et al sounded so good to me - sort of a tractor-like snort is the way I thought of it.

Here is something interesting IMHO.
I just noticed: "And, he got considerably more than the original $1601 that you paid."
$1601 was, I believe, the out the door price. I just plugged $1500 into the first two inflation calculators I saw and they both said that was equivalent to $10,000+ today!

This calls to mind that, in December, I gave two meet-and-greet passes to a friend & his brother for a Bonamassa concert. I remembered he said that they sat 5th row center & I asked him recently what that cost: $700. I remember "back in the day" that tickets to The Fillmore & Winterland across The Bay to see Iron Butterfly, Yes, Ike & Tina Turner, etc were, well actually I don't remember exactly, but so inexpensive that I didn't give it a thought and I wasn't earning much.

Shades of the Avalon Ballroom and The Fillmore, as well. I was in school in SF 67-68. A crazy time.

Added a new bike to the garage this week. My son and I were at the dealership to see it uncrated. It's a 1299 Panigale V4 S Corse Edition. Enjoying getting to know this bike.
