Suggestion on custom made rack/shelves?

Am going to have built a two shelf unit, 36" wide, that will sit on top of a built in bench seat.

The bench will hold two monoblock amps, the shelf above a preamp and digital, and the top shelf will hold a garrard 301 TT - heavy.

I probably need to attach it to make sure stats upright.

I will use multiple layers of plywood for acoustical reasons.

But I am open to any and all suggestions as I think about this, including whether the unit should just rest on the bench or have something like lindolabs isolation feet.

The room is 1920's darker wood labelled, craftsman style so no modern look. Perhaps black steel of needed or stained wood.

I'd suggest drawing up the basic design yourself & having a good cabinet maker build it for you. My only suggestion would be use Canadian Maple if you have the funds, or atleast maple shelves & uprights. You could probably use maple veneer elsewhere. If you have to rest the shelf on a bench, it would be a good idea to use some form of constrained layer damping between the two. And you can find plenty of good value solutions around. Just a few cheap Vibrapods should do the trick. Good luck with your project

More concerned about sound, structural integrity and looks, than budget - within reason. I will have a furniture maker build it.

Greene and Greene is my favorite among the Arts & Crafts movement.

However, Stickley is more reconized and in my opinion, easier to build.

Quarter-sawn white oak is the wood that is period correct.

Personally, I get tired of looking at all that dark oak and if it were me I would lean towards Cherry. Cherry will naturally darken over time

Green and green were amazing architects. The gamble house in Pasadena is incredible.

I wonder whether it is better to have isolation devices, which type, on the feet of the rack that sits on the bench or mount it on the wall - which due to the panelling is destructive.

I can hear some rumble from vibrations when just sitting directly on bench if walk heavily across the floor.

You might have a look at Darrell Peart's website. He is building me a Greene and Greene style 5 shelf rack. I decided to use a product from Soundcare which is essentally a self contained spike and cup -- easy to move on wood floors without damage. My rack will be all mahogany except for the top shelf which will be slate. I can email you the drawings if you would like to see a sample.
