What gorgeous speakers you owned. If I owned those Guarneri Memento speakers I don't believe I could have ever mustered the fortitude to let them slip from my grip.

I was very happy with the GM's when I still had the 501s. The Lamm M1.2's that replaced them were better served by the Wilson Sophia and now the Sasha's. The Lamm/SF pairing was "great" but the Lamm/Wilson is just "fantastic".

I just finished listening to the SACD Jazz After Midnight. I am not exaggerating when I say the instruments sounded as though they were present in the studio. The Cremona Auditors just disappeared. The McIntosh XLS112 blends seamlessly with the SF's. I am now listening to Liz Story - My Foolish Heart. The timber of her piano notes is perfect. The initial hammer attacks on the piano strings are genuine and lifelike. Lingering notes and harmonics just drift so realistically in the air. The strength of the piano is always present, never shallow. Full chords are so rich with color. The softest notes draw you in. I am very impressed with the Sonus Faber Cremona Auditor/C2300/MC275/MCD500 combination. Actually, I am overwhelmed.

Ivan.......I can't imagine you being disappointed with the performance. It may me tougher than I thought to decide between your two choices. I have no doubt the McIntosh MC2301's with 300 watts per channel of tube power into the Sonus Faber Stradivari's will be amazing.

It has given me great joy to read this thread conveying your initial impressions (and unbridled enthusiasm) of your lovely Cremona Auditors. I have been bowled over by my pair for 3 1/2 yrs now and I too am still amazed night after night by these diminutive speakers.

How happy are you that you choose not to sell your McIntosh powered subwoofer! I feel I have the best of both worlds with the stand mounted Auditors and now a PAIR (many thanks Ivan) of REL B2 powered subwoofers. Full range frequency response with a Houdini-like disappearing act.

David is right, the Sonus-McIntosh magic is spellbinding. Soooo much more enjoyable than my initial setup of Musical Fidelity-Sonus.

I look forward to your report on how the sound changes when you sit the cabinets onto their dedicated stands, tweak toe in, and rake. for what its worth, the picture of the Auditors on the Bellos looks like excellent placement of the Auditors in your room. Mine are also a little over two feet from sidewalls, 6 feet apart, 7 ft away listening position, and 2 1/2 feet from the front wall which works very well in my small room. It has taken me two years of tweaking to get these coordinates and you Sir nailed it right out of the box.....i have a feeling you have set up a speaker or two in the past!

My maiden voyage into McIntoshLand occurred 1 1/2 yrs ago documented on the other site. i brought home a C2300, MC402, and a 275mkV. I ended up with the 402, but boy o boy the 275 and Auditors were an amazing combination. I have never heard such a midrange. Vocals were simply mesmerizing. Talk about your golden glow, all with stock tubes. I found myself pushing the system too hard too often with the C2300 meters pushing far to the right as i like to crank it up myself at times. If my budget at that time allowed for a PAIR of 275mkV's and a new, longer set of interconnects....well i may have had me a sweet, all-tube system myself.

Jason.......Your system looks great, and I'm positive it sounds incredible. Since putting the Cremona Auditors into the studio tube system, I have a entirely new found respect for Sonus Faber speakers. If these two sweet beauties can sound this good, what must the Elipsa and the Stradivari sound like? It also goes without saying, the unique shapes, and stunning looks are alluring. Owning the Cremona Auditors, and joining the Sonus Faber family is a warm and fuzzy feeling.

About the McIntosh XLS112 subwoofer, yes, I am thrilled no one bought it from me in the short time I had it up for sale. The XLS112 is a perfect mate for my Auditors. Not only do the speakers disappear in the room, so does the sub. I didn't turn the studio tube system off last night until 3:45 AM. That says it all.

To me the Strads. are the best pair of speakers in the world....
