Default Cutting The Cord - What I Learned

I cut the cord and sent my cable TV provider packing in late May. It was an interesting experience but I did learn a LOT.

Hopefully the attachment to this post will help others.

Michael.......The last paragraph says it all.

It takes an investment in time to explore your new streaming universe as there is a lot to choose from but
it can be exciting and well worth your time. Watching your old cable favorites is certainly welcome but
finding that new content is a real eye opener. Be careful though. The streaming universe can cause “binge
watching”. It’s like a good book you just can’t put down. Soon you’ll find your dishes are stacking up in the
sink, the laundry is spilling out all over the laundry room floor and you are tired when it’s time to get up
and go to work because you couldn’t turn off the TV at bedtime the night before.

Food for thought, streaming costs will likely go up in the near future.

I busted the 1TB limits of my data plan in August, moving past 1024GB like a Big Boy steam train on a high speed run through Wyoming.

I'm "on track" to bust it again this month, which will exhaust my 2 no extra charge months and so I'll keep "tracking" my usage and if it continues to trend high, I'll pony up for the additional monthly fee to go to Unlimited Data.

Even with the additional fee I am still paying less for more content than what was being paid to Comcast.

I am within 15 miles of my local network transmitters so I did add an OTA antenna a few weeks ago and the reception is stellar. Free TV is Good TV!

Default VoIP

Hey Michael - excellent write-up. One thing to consider adding is VoIP - telephone via internet. Many people get triple bundles - voice, data, and TV with cable service. Adds a small amount to the total cost of cord-cutting.

I need to try a digital antenna at some point and test my local reception.

I’ve been a happy YouTube TV subscriber since late June....it’s worked flawlessly for me since day one, not one glitch or anything. Has saved me a bunch of $$$ too! I also didn’t realize how little TV I really watched until I started paying attention.

Good luck with the antenna. Mine performs well even though there are trees, houses and hills that prevent a line of sight orientation. The one I have is omnidirectional although they said for best results to orient one side towards the towers.

VoIP, or Voice over Internet Protocol is a good solution if you cut your landline. I had already unbundled and got rid of the landline service some time ago.

Thanks for the kind comments on the write up.
