i would say that the seller either tested the tubes on a number of different tube testers, or retested tubes that had been tested by a previous supplier. The numbers <100 are gain or quality measurements and the numbers >2000 are transconductance measurements. Each set of two numbers indicates how closely the two sections of each dual triode are matched.

So does it appear that the tubes are matched?

Stahle.......Yes, the tubes are closely matched according to the numbers. Install them, relax and enjoy the music.

Yup...as Dan said...
P.S. I suspect that he seller used a Maxipreamp 2 for the tests; the + numbers <100 are gain readings, the - numbers <100 are noise readings and numbers >2000 are transconductance readings.

Hi Stahle,

I am about a year behind you in replacing my C22 tubes for the first time.--they are en route. This is an extremely helpful thread. A couple of questions just to make sure I understand everything. First, your text says C22 III, but your signature says IV, and Dan's photo caption refers to "current" in 2019. Can you confirm that the line stage tubes in a IV are the two on the right as I look at the front of the amp? (This is important because I do not have a turntable so I am leaving the stock tubes in place for the phono stages)

Thanks

Peter

jdandy (Dan) died some time back. Anytime I see his dog avatar, I am saddened again by his loss. He was the heart of this forum.

Default McIntosh C22 III Tubes

Anyone know the difference between Gold Lion ECC83 12AX7 vs Gold Lion CV4004 12AX7 tubes. Apparently the ECC83 is said to have a long plate and the CV4004 is said to have a short plate, yet both are 12AX7 tubes. Which one is the right tube to buy? Either one have an advantage over the other for use in my C22?

I ordered 4 of the CV4004 from the The Tube Store yesterday. I had the same question but just went ahead and ordered the CV4004. Today it appears the prices have gone up. Mine yesterday were $53.95 and this morning they are $79.95 unless I am going nuts....! If that is correct, you better order as soon as you can. Its like going to the gas pump.
