I use the CR-1 with my K-03X and twin F113v2 subs and couldn't be happier. The ability to set the crossover point and levels per Barry Ober's recommendation was relatively easy, and the results are great. Using the 24db crossover slope.

Don't hesitate on the CR-1 if your concerns are degradation of the mids and upper range fidelity. It is not an issue.

Would you mind sharing those settings? Public or private? I have the V1 version...The thing with the K01x, is that sometimes, most of the time I don't feel I need a sub, and others I do (I have kef references 2). I mostly want the sub for organ music, rock and especially the likes of vangelis, jean Michell jarre, kitaro, etc. Thanks!

But if you do the DAC first, you can't use a digital crossover, because the signal is in analog form, and a digital crossover works on a digital signal.

I suppose there is some gear that implements a digital crossover on an analog signal. But to do that, it converts back to digital first, then runs the crossover, then has four channels of DAC. In my mind, the repeated conversion between digital and analog domains is best avoided.

Clearer?
I know what you are saying. I asked because I have been using a Pass Labs analog crossover for years with no problem whatsoever which would save you from having to buy a four channel DAC instead of a two channel DAC.
