Big congratulations. That is going to be an epic update. It must be a hugely satisfying
moment to get this rolling. It's going to be some exciting weeks. Do you get to see
how your speakers will be built?

I would like to get the check passed and order placed asap. This dealer is very reliable and I know them well. The dealer will get it in, I'm confident. Both of us wanted this. The dealer wanted to sell me one as bad as I wanted one. When that happens usually there's a deal. I don't see it collapsing at this point but you never know.
Congrats, Charles.

Yeah, I was going to gently mention that "penultimate" means "next to last", not "last" or "ultimate."

BTW, the first time I heard the use of the term "penultimate" was in Organic Chemistry: for example, the next to last carbon atom in, for example, an aliphatic chain, is referred to as the "penultimate" carbon.

So, whenever I hear the term "penultimate", I am taken back to my days in "O-Chem!"

Big WOW and congrats Charles!

I agree with you. You never have to consider another speaker.

Therefore, you just killed your HiFi-hobby.

Though, the music will flow endlessly.

-------------------------------------------------

Just a story along the way...

I hope there will be a deal. What can go wrong? Nothing for sure.
But I know what you mean. Since May this year I'v traveled through a painful deal. Everything was ok in the end.
I just bought a quite special thing thats one of my dreams, but the deal was prolonged for some reasons that and that was out of my hand. I found it a bit strange. Money and emotions were invested. And I saw a small risk of all sorts of bad things.
Until it's signed, payed and delivered, there are these painful doubts. Thats the thrill and a part of interesting deals. It turned out that everything was ok and the dealer was great.
Best deals are made with professionals at both sides. That's not always the case.

I fell in love with the xvx almost the moment I first saw it. If it would fit in my room, I knew it was the final speaker for me, the end of a long career in audio. I won't ever be looking for a new speaker again. That's one of the reasons I am going to buy it. It's truly a penultimate speaker. I am a Mac and AQ aficionado. I will never change from Mac and my Wel Signature cables and IC's are timeless and ageless.

So in a perverse sort of way, I am actually saving money because I will never and I mean never consider another speaker again. I'm not going to be in a position to wait for the Alexx upgrade or the XLF replacement except with curiosity as to what they might be. No way would I remotely consider trading down from my xvx to one of them.

This new Wilson speaker is revolutionary. It is half the price of the WAMM and very close to its equal because its drivers are more advanced. The build quality I believe to be similar. It is quite incredible that Wilson could produce a speaker comparable to the WAMM at half the price. The color will be piano black with black trim.

I will post extensive pics. It will be probably 6 weeks before the installation but the deal has been struck.

very cool, enjoy!!!!

Charles
is there a reason behind your choice of Black? I have seen a number of XLF's, Alexandria's, Alexx's and Maxx's yet only a couple times in Black. Does that work best in your room? Who is your dealer by the way?

Here are the true measurements. This is also found on the Wilson Forum.

I appreciate the comment on the weight greatly. Well, the xvx order just got closer to a reality. Once the check is passed there's no going back.

Here are the figures made by the owner and his top assistant: 6" minimum speaker clearance from ceiling.

Over rear tweeter 8" minimum clearance and probably 10-12" maximum clearance.

Between the main tweeters 96" or 8' of stereo separation as opposed to 9' with the Alexx.

The xvx will set on a mat.

My listening distance is approximately 138" or 11.5'. Ear height 37.5".

The only variable left is the true height of the xvx which is variable. Wilson will be supplied with all this data and pics have been taken of the room. They must supply an accurate height of an unspiked xvx built to my ears and listening distance. The above measurements are based on an xvx height of 74". Specified height by Wilson is 73,5/8". My financial adviser will inform me this afternoon if I can afford this without placing my family in financial jeopardy.

The owner has truly extensive experience and absolutely believes the xvx will fit and operate properly in my room.

Overall, this purchase makes a lot of sense to me. Is there anybody and I mean anybody that remotely thinks I'll ever consider another speaker coming after my xvx? If there is, then you will consider me to be insane which I am not.

So this will truly be closure for me, albeit a very expensive one, of a long high end career. After this installation, I am going to sit back and enjoy my music.

p.s. the owner will come out and supervise the entire installation and of course the whole dealership will come along with him. I've got an errand to run, then I'm going to walk about 5 miles to blow off steam, get good an tired in the legs. I'm listening to Beethoven's 5th through my Alexx which is my victory symphony as I pen this note.

As for color I believe piano black universal. It matches my Thor and my Mac amps. I like galaxy grey a lot but having experienced it, I think I like black better. These speakers are really expensive. I cannot afford a premium color which I suspect would be another 10 grand.

As to dealer's name, I prefer to keep it confidential. I don't know why exactly. Hope you understand.

Not really, if you feel comfortable with a purchase this large from a dealer, it would be nice for other forum members to know in case others are interested in making a purchase such as this knowing that the dealer can be trusted to take care of you now and in the future. I think it would be very helpful.

Yes, but I feel careful planning minimizes the risk. I have total confidence in Wilson and my dealer. That's where dealer client relationship is critical. The actual owner arrived with a stick cut to the height of the xvx, a huge level, and a tape measure, along with his top assistant who I have known for 15 years. Once Wilson receives the check, it will be just like any other installation, albeit a big one. The key is accurate measurements and they have been made, I assure you. Apexorca, I know you are European and I appreciate you greatly, not that I don't appreciate everyone else just as much. It is your interest in the vintage Krell and in The Sonus Faber speaker that you own, that always interests me. Your photography is superb.
