Wrapping up Dennis Showalter's, "Patton and Rommel", which is quite well done. It is not a 'head-to-head' comparison, as the two never met in battle. It is more of a biographical comparison and I would say it is something like 55% Rommel & 45% Patton. Unlike the somewhat sympathetic biographies of Washington, Hamilton & Grant by Cernow, Showalter is a bit more objective in his analysis of both men.

Am finding the newer (this century?) histories & biographies I've been reading to be better than many of the previous century ones, which seem to be less objective. Just give me the facts, ma'am..................

"Hitler's Galdiator" (Sepp Dietrich) in the on-deck circle. Not a sympathetic subject.

Candice Millard's "Hero of the Empire". Churchill's experience during the Boer War (definitely not England's finest hour). Briefly covers his experience in India & Sudan leading up to the Boer War. A good read.

Ted Templeman: A Platinum Producer's Life In Music. Great book! Ken Scott's book was better in technical details, but Ted's book is still a very good read.

Default What are you Reading or Read?

Recently went through these two.

If you only watched The Martian in the theater or at home but haven’t read the book, I hardly recommend doing so. It kicks from the first sentence with science and problem solving, page after page. I really enjoyed it.

Most recent read.

I've always been interested in WW2 events and armored vehicles. This book did not disappoint although hotly debated by the die hard fans of the Sherman tank.

Read several of Ambrose books. Too bad he 'went down in flames' at the end of his career. The museum he started in NO is pretty decent.
My next book is Yeide's, "Tank Killers", which should be interesting as the Sherman was over-matched against the Panther & Tiger. Lucky for us (and, especially the Brits) that we had so many Sherman's and were fighting a 1-front war.
