Last Sunday I took my wife for an offshore fishing trip down to Venice, LA. The trip down and back is 156 miles each way with about a 30 mile boat run to boot. We had a great outing and caught a few fish and got a good first hand view of just how many big Red Snapper are hanging out around the oil rigs we stopped at. The season opens at the end of this month.

It's worth mentioning that I bought a Sony Walkman NW-A55 DAP that I loaded up 256 GB of digital music about 2 months ago. Primarily I use it to stream through the boat's audio system when I'm washing it or working on it, but also if we're just hanging out and enjoying the water.

Well, after such an arduous outing with such a long ride home (we parked the boat in the driveway about 8:00 pm) I slipped the Walkman into my back pocket and (you guessed it) then promptly forgot about it. The next morning I went outside to wash the boat and my wife attended to the laundry. So yeah, the Walkman went for a wash and rinse cycle before I realized it was in the washing machine!

It's toast. I put it inside a bowl of dry rice for a week hoping for the best, but it won't power on. I figure since I'm such an egg head and can't take care of my stuff better than that I don't deserve another one. Guess I'll have to get by with my crappy iPhone.

If you have a story of being a similar dummy I'd like to hear about it. It might even make me feel better.

That’s why I’m not allowed to have nice things.

If you haven’t recycled it yet, bake it in a conventional oven at 200 F for four hours. That temp is low enough the thermoplastic will probably survive and high enough to force out any moisture that may remain.

If it has a removable battery take it out.

It’s a long shot but worth the effort.

Oh that sucks... They don't build them like they used to! My Sony Walkman (circa 1982 if my memory serves me) went through hell and served me many years. Don't recall ever putting in the washer but I bet it would have survived that as well

What Tom suggested is worth a shot but I wouldn't get hopes up...

Well, first, you have to mix it with a bunch of clean Walkmen, then sell the lot in China and convert the resulting Yuan into poker chips at a casino in Macau. Then you can pretend to play some blackjack, or roulette, or other games of your choice. Then a few days later you cash in your chips and turn them back into Yuan, which you then turn back into American dollars using an agent. Then you can buy a clean Walkman.

BTW, these new Walkman's are built so you can't take them apart. I'm afraid it's toast. Clean toast, but toast nonetheless.
